What You’ll Need
- Paper in 3 colors (ideally, one sheet should be metallic if possible)
Method
1. Choose the color of your koi fish. Add glue to the back of whatever color paper you’ve chosen for your fish.
2. Wrap the toilet roll tube with colored paper, add glue, and press together to stick. Trim off any excess. If you find the paper isn’t sticking, attach two clothes pegs at either end of the tube to hold it together.
3. Pinch the tube together at one end to look a bit like a trapezium. It should be nearly flat. Leave the other end open.
4. Use your metallic pen to draw scales on the tube. They’re really easy to draw, they’re basically just lots of semi-circles next to each other.
5. Cut out a tail and two fins from paper in another color.
6. Add detail to the fins and tail with your metallic pen to make it look more realistic.
7. Cut a thin strip about 0.5 cm thick from your final color of paper. Red works best because it’ll turn into a mouth.
8. Glue the strip along the edge of the open end of the toilet roll tube.
9. Glue the fins to either side and the tail to the pinched end.
10. Stick googly eyes to the open end of the tube and there you have it — your very own cardboard koi fish craft.
To add the finishing touches to your koi fish craft, consider using markers or crayons to draw intricate details such as scales, patterns, and lines on the fins and body. These tools allow for precise and vibrant designs that can bring your creation to life.
For a shimmering effect, sprinkle glitter or attach sequins to your koi fish. This adds a dazzling touch that catches the light beautifully, making your craft sparkle.
Using felt or fabric can provide a soft, textured look to your koi fish. This material can add a unique tactile element to your project, making it even more special.
Foam sheets are also a great option if you want a sturdier craft. They are easy to cut and shape, and they add a durable quality to your koi fish.
Finally, consider using recycled materials such as old magazines or packaging. This not only creates a sustainable craft but also adds a unique and creative twist to your koi fish. Using recycled materials is a fantastic way to be eco-friendly while crafting.
With these materials and techniques, your koi fish craft will be both beautiful and unique. Happy crafting!
